Water Balloon Painting: Messy Summer Art for Kids

Water Balloon Painting

~ A Messy Summer Art Activity for Kids ~

Summer is here.

It’s the time of popsicles, movies on the lawn, and water play. Time off school to inspire creativity and exploration. Messy art and getting hosed off afterwards.

If you are anything like us, you may have a stash of these guys lying around the house in wait for summertime.

Bunch O Balloons are an amazing water balloon product that free mom or dad from sitting next to the faucet trying to stretch a water balloon over the nozzle. No more trying to tie the tiny ends of the balloons and cutting off the circulation in your finger tips.

Instead, simply twist the handle onto the spigot, turn on the water, and fill – and tie – 100 water balloons in 60 seconds.

(This isn’t a sponsored post, by the way. I just really love Bunch O Balloons. They’ve saved my sanity in the water balloon department.)

The other day I filled a trunk full of water balloons in about 8 min. It was amazing.

I’m not kidding you, I used to never do water balloons with my kids. They were just too much of a hassle.

But having no pool and living in a desert BEGS for creative water play. This summer, with the help of Bunch O Balloons, water balloons it is.

But that’s not it.

After you’ve finished enjoying the fun of a bucket full of water balloons, you’re not done!

A great messy, fun, texture art painting project awaits.

Because the handles of Bunch O Balloons also double as an amazing paint brush!

With the Bunch O Balloons handles, you can dot, flick, brush, swipe, fling, shake, and more.

Use the Bunch O Balloons handle to create fun designs. Hair on a person. Spaghetti on a plate. Patterns of color. Blades of grass.

Let your kids imaginations run wild.

My favorite way to do painting art is to lay out one of our rolls of easel paper and just let the kids go for it.

When I happen to have packaging paper from Amazon Prime shipment boxes, I lay that out underneath to protect the surface underneath.

I then squirt dollops of our art supply stash of washable tempera paint on paper plates and let the kids go to town.

The only rule, because I have one somewhat sensory-sensitive child, is no painting each other…unless you both verbally agree.

And no painting the house. Cause…just no.

I also try to throw out other textural painting tools as well. This is a little roller brush that came in one of our MasterKitz boxes.

I love MasterKitz boxes, btw.

They come in many different artists/art projects and include fun little art tools like stencils, odd paint brushes, and foam stamps. We have often pulled out previously used MasterKitz supplies to use for subsequent free painting projects.

After you’ve finished creating a textural masterpiece, cut out your favorite parts and hang on your child’s art wall. Or, better yet, take the whole roll and use as wrapping paper for great aunt Cathy’s next birthday present.

Between water balloons and painting, throw in some yummy homemade popsicles and you’ve got a wonderful relaxed summer afternoon!

Have you tried painting with Bunch O Balloon sticks? How did it go? Give it a try and let us know!

I had never thought of using water balloons in this way – so creative and fun! I’ve always wanted to fill balloons with paint, pin them to a canvas and through darts… maybe that is the adult version lol! I’ll keep this idea in mind for sure. 🙂
